Identification And Treatment of Academic Misconduct

In order to protect the rights and interests of readers and maintain the quality and reputation of this journal, Journal of University of Jinan (Natural Science Edition) will strictly test and screen papers during the publishing process. For papers deemed to be academic misconduct, they will be rejected and dealt with seriously. Editorial departments or editors should follow COPE guidelines (or other equivalent guidelines) when dealing with papers with academic misconducts.

1. Academic Misconduct Detection Process

1) This journal uses the China National Knowledge Infrastructure Science and Technology Journal Academic Misconduct Document Detection System to automatically detect papers, using the China Academic Literature Network Publishing General Database as a full-text comparison database to detect academic misconduct such as plagiarism and plagiarism, forgery, tampering, improper attribution, and multiple submissions.

2) Papers to be tested include the papers submitted and the papers suspected of plagiarism by some readers.

3) The process of recognition of academic misconduct papers goes as follows: Plagiarism checks of the manuscript are conducted first; when the plagiarism rate is greater than 15%, it is necessary to submit the paper together with the comparative paper to reviewers for confirmation of the nature and form of the duplication of the paper; finally, a document named as Opinions on the Recognition and Handling of Similarities between the Paper and the Comparative Paper is made.

2. Recognition Criteria for Academic Misconduct Papers

1) Copying the work of others in its original or substantially original form;

2) Changing the type of results achieved by others and treating the results completed by others as independently completed by oneself; utilizing copyrighted elements of the results and changing their specific manifestations, and treating the results completed by others as independently completed by oneself;

3) Using the protected viewpoints of others to form the entire, core, or main viewpoint of one's own academic paper, and using the protected academic achievements of others as the main or substantive part of one's own academic paper;

4) Fabricating or tampering with research results, survey data, experimental data, or literature materials in a paper;

5) Quoting protected viewpoints, plans, materials, data, etc. from others without annotations or specifying their sources;

6) Submission of one paper to more than one journal at the same time.

3. Handling of Academic Misconduct Papers

1) The editorial department should promptly notify the authors of papers ultimately deemed to be academic misconduct in a cautious manner, and allow the authors to provide explanations and arguments on this issue before making a decision to handle it.

2) If the paper has been accepted but has not been officially published, the author will be notified, and the paper will be directly rejected and disqualified in the manuscript processing process on the journal’s website. The author will be criticized, educated, and warned.

3) If the paper has already been officially published, the author of the paper shall be notified in written form, and the admission qualification for the paper shall be canceled, and the author shall be ordered to return the manuscript fee for the paper. If it causes reputation or other losses to the journal, the right to pursuing compensation is reserved to claim.

4) For authors with serious misconducts, their names and the names of their affiliated organizations shall be published in the journal at an appropriate time together with a notice of revocation of the paper, which shall be reported to the author's affiliated organizations and other scientific and technological journals in the field.

5) For authors with serious misconducts such as plagiarism and multiple submissions for one draft, their papers will be rejected by the journal for a span of 2 years.

4. Handling of Author's Objections

If the authors have objections with the recognition and handling results of this journal, they can submit a written application for review to the editorial department of the journal within 10 working days from the date of receiving the notice. If the deadline is exceeded, this journal will not accept any application. The editorial department is responsible for inviting experts to review the paper, provide final handling opinions, and notify the author of the review results within 30 working days.

The above measures shall come into effect from the date of promulgation and shall be interpreted by the editorial department of Journal of University of Jinan (Natural Science Edition).
